I have spent time with both these guys and they are constantly smiling, happy and stoked to be riding! Meet two of South Africa's premier wakeboarders and wakeskaters, Dylan James Mitchell and Dale Nieuwstad. Filmed around South Africa with their Spanish friend in tow, this gives a good vision of who they are, where they come from and how they ride!
I am often asked about Wakeskating and what it is. The answer is simple. Take skateboarding to the water, being towed bu boat, ski or cable and do your best flip and wake tricks. Still confused? Then watch this surreal little video in slow motion and see for yourself!

If you thought the weekend in Cape Town was mental with Ultimate X, Rolling Retro, 40 Degree weather and more hot gals than any town has a right to, then this week's Podcast will blow your mind! First up we had paraplegic surfer, Dries Millard, in to chat about participating in the Rolling Retro surf day and how he is changing the face of paraplegic action sports and inspiring others to challenge themselves.
Then we had Jarret Johnson with all the Bodyboarding news both locally and abroad. He also gave us his predictions for the ongoing Pipeline Challenge, which has no less than 7 Saffa's charging the event.
Greg Illingworth and Markus Museler gave us the lowdown on Ultimate X, as well as some hard discussions about the state of action sports, athletes and sponsors in SA and the real need for a proper park in Cape Town.
Lastly, Tarryn Chudleigh, Ilan Sheer and Zac Wrankmore joined me to chat Rolling Retro and the surf scene at Llanduno Beach. +Tyrone Bradley gave insight as a sports photographer and of course Chris Cabby Cab was along for the ride and causing mayhem as per usual.

Lets get something straight, Ultimate X 2013 was the most boss Action Sports event ever seen in South Africa. From Skate, Bmx, Wake and FMX the boys and girls were throwing down and the crowd were going mental! Fellow MC, Chris Cab, who normally works on MOD and Ken Block events in Europe, was totally blown away and compared the Ultimate X to the best he has seen. Just check out this edit by GoPro South Africa and you will see exactly what I mean and look out for this week's Podcast with some of the top athletes raving about the event, such as Bmx superstar, Greg Illingworth.
This Saturday sees the biggest X Event in South Africa return to the V&A Waterfront. With FMX, BMX, Skate and Wake featuring South Africa's top athletes, as well as some international surprises, including Chris Cabby Cab on the mic with myself and Rupert Von T. All the big brands will have stalls and you will be able to drink ice cold Hunters and Beers in the bar areas.

Tonight is the first of my Movie Nights at Aces n Spades Bar in Cape Town. I decided to host these evenings due to the fact that people are always asking where and how they can watch the movies, of the Trailers I have posted on this blog. So, on the last Thursday of every month, I will have a Movie Night and show you 2 of the latest movies from the world of Action Sports. Each month a different presenting sponsor will play and supply the movies, so be sure that there will be plenty of variety when it comes to the movies and sports.
Tonight is presented by Fox and we will be showing the new surf film, #NoFilter and the wake skate movie, Noisia Vision. response has been amazing so make sure you get to the bar early!

The 1500-year-old Basilica Cistern also called Basilica Palace hosted
Frederic Von Osten and Dominik Gührs, two of the best wakeboard athletes
in the world. The two Germans rode their wakeboards between historical
columns and worked their magic for this special project.
The 2012 Cash for Tricks Cable Wake comp went down at the Interboot Trade Show in Germany. I love the format for these events, with the biggest tricks being rewarded. It really pushes the progression of the sport and the riders. Make sure you watch till the end as there are some massive 720 and double backrolls towards the finals.

This week I bring you 3 action sports videos that are going to make you very happy. First up is Wake Skate and the new movie called, Noisiavision. The new movie is available for download online HERE and features our very own Saffer charger, Dieter Humpsch. The movie looks insane.
Next up is Kai Neville's new surf film, Dear Suburbia, available next month on Itunes. It features the top young surfers on the planet in various wild and exotic places. Edited with Kai's usual unique style, this will be a must have if you want to watch the leaders in modern surfing. Interesting though, that Jordy is not in this one...
Lastly, DC brings us the Torstein Horgmo documentary, Horgasm, a Love Story. Torstein is one of the top snowboarders on the planet and this will be very high on my download list come October. Enjoy the teasers and have great weekend.
It's your Friday Mix with the best bits and bobs of video from the web this week. First up you have the O'Neill Wake the Line from Germany, then it's the new surf film trailer, called Intentio, followed by a gnarly skate wipe with Thrasher Magazine's "Hall of Meat" and finally a little eye candy and the Miami Dolphin's Cheerleaders shooting their 2013 Bikini Calendar (Warning, the music on this one may drive you mad, but the visuals are great.)
Not sure what to do with your Saturday in Cape Town? Well then, I have your solution! Come down to the Milnerton Aquatic Club for the Pro rounds and finals of the SA Open Wake Championships. The countries best Wakeboarders and Wakeskaters will be challenging for the SA Open titles and there should be some pretty epic riding on display. Guys like Dylan Mitchell and Dale Nieuwstad, who were on my radio show on Monday eve (Podcast for download), have promised that it will be worth coming to watch!

Dale recently won the European and African Champs Wakeskate Title and Dylan is looking to beat his friend in this weekend's comp. Twig and Kate gave us the lowdown on their travels the last year and we all took a little inspiration from Twig - the wake kids were stoked to meet him. Now that the dust has settled and we have all recovered from the heat wave that was last Saturday, I can finally put to paper my thoughts on the 2012 Ultimate X. I dont need to get that verbose or even write a whole soliloquy - bottom line is, Ultimate X 2012 was bloody marvelous!
The event has grown every year, but this year saw a massive jump. A large part of this had to do with the new Skate and Bmx park. The levels of riding in the park were simply mind blowing. The best skating and Bmx I have seen in a very long time. (Dont believe me, just take a gander at the video below!) Many of the local riders were a little intimidated by the course, due to the fact that we dont have a park this size in the Cape. This needs to change in order to up the level of riding. Guys like, Greg Illingworth (Bmx Winner), showed that they have been riding overseas in massive parks, with their flow through the course and utilizing different lines on every run.

Instead of having a huge bunch of riders in the FMX, the organizers chose to keep the field tight and had the two best guys in Southern Africa. This was a great decision. Nick de Wit and Alistair Sayers put on an amazing Fmx display that had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hands. Multiple backflips, huge extensions and the showmanship only guys who have performed on the World Stage could bring to the event. Ultimate X brought the best and we were all stoked to see it!

The Wake boys put on a show, but the Jetski is a problem. The wake slows things down and not having a high extended rope certainly limited the size of airs off of the kicker. Rumor has it that their is going to be a cable system for next year. We can but hope, it would be epic.
There were no huge problems on the day. We witnessed amazing riding and all in all the event was an incredible success. I am really looking forward to seeing what they come up with for next year. Ultimate X in Jozi? (Who knows what could happen...)

Get ready to be happy people, because Ultimate X is back and it is going to be bigger than ever. Every year the event has improved and every year it is blessed with the hottest day of the year. So get your best X gear on, pack the sunblock, take your liver pills and start amping on the 18th February 2012!
This year the event has an R80'000 prize pool for the BMX, Skate, Wake and FMX crew. That is by far the most cash at any action sports event in SA ever and it will ensure that only the best riders are competing for your enjoyment. Last year the highlight was definitely the FMX show and with both "Sick" Nick de Wit and Alistair Sayers confirmed for this year, you can expect backflip mayhem at the V&A Waterfront.

Recipe for a Tropical Roast:
Add 1 x River butter
4 x Wakeboarders
1 x Mastercraft cream
2 x 4metres rocket air
1 x Handful crushed bones
1 x Litre coconut milk
1 x 420g sun sweat
3 x Litres fish blood
Capture and mix everything together in a Red One camera.
Add a tad of sea salt and rum for extra flavor.
Scrape all of this, and the juice into an Apple Macbook set at 180˚c.
Cook for 4 months.
Dinner is now served with extra hot Tropical sauce.

Wow, this a very cool little piece. these guys must have froze their balls off on the Glacier! Really nicely shot and put together to.
Dominic Gührs and Frederic von Osten - two wakeboard pros and best buds go on a search for new wake spots. On their first spot, they shred the Weißsee glacier lake near Uttendorf, Austria.
Let me see, what should we do today? Oh I know, lets gap over the Harbour Wall, what a great idea. These guys are nuts really, but it does look fun. I reckon Hout Bay is just asking for an event like this.
Red Bull Harbour Reach is a new wakeboard event in its first year enabling wake boarders to ride in a place never wakeboarded before........a Grade 1 listed seaside harbour. Positioned on the South Coast of England Lyme Regis is you typical English fishing village. Red Bull aims to push Wakeboarders to break boundaries by jumping the harbour wall.
Make sure you catch our second show of theGoodLife on Supersport 7 (South Africa) tonight at 8pm. This episode covers the Ultimate X event in Cape Town this past February.
