Rip Curl presents, Float - A 6 month adventure around Indonesia
6 Months cruising from one end of the Indonesian Archipelago to the other surfing perfect waves, catching Game Fish, drinking liters of Bintang Beer and they had hot Rip Curl girls on the boat. Jealous much, you think, haha. I definitely want to see this movie and Ricky Bobby and Franky should feature.
Float is the film version of the RC Tip 2 Tip Project,a 6-month quest on the Infinite Search, stretching from one end of the Indonesian Archipelago to the other aboard the mighty Quest 1.
It's a story of adventure and surfing spirit and the surfers who put their lives on hold to chase it by sea.
From perfect waves to cabin fever - Float lives the surfing dream and takes you everywhere except a final destination.
Starring: Dean Brady, Dillon Perillo and Bruno Santos,
Featuring: Mick Fanning, Owen Wright, Matt Wilkinson, Taylor Knox and others on The Search.

I wanna surf Greenbush!
So many peeps ask me if it is worth going on a Mentawai Boat trip. I have been and scored mental waves, surfed 6 hours a day and caught some pretty impressive fish. It was amazing! Unfortunately, we were there a few years back and Greenbush had not been promoted to the general public yet. Boy, when I go back, I am going to be testing my Pig Dog. This wave looks incredible and my pals that have surfed it, swear blind it's the best left tube they have surfed. So, to answer the question, HELL YES, you wanna go!

You can surf the 7 Ghosts - Indonesia's now famous river bore waves
To say that this story has exploded would be an absolute understatement. It seems people have been surfing the river bore, known as the "Bono", for longer than thought, but it was the Rip Curl trip there with Tom Curren that has blown the spot wide open. My previous posts have been going crazy, with viewers not being able to get enough. Now, you can book your trip to this crazy wave.
A word of warning before you do though,
1) This is a river in third world Sumatra, very far from any decent medical facilities. The water is filthy, people on the Rip Curl trip got serious staff infections and there are 4m crocodiles in the river.
2) The operator does not have jet skis. They use small speed boats.
3) Malaria is around.
4) No Booze! heavy Muslim community.
Having said all that, if you are about surf exploration and adventure - this definately fits the bill. Maybe it is time to go explore.

Surf Heaven turns to Surf Chaos
Heaven is turned asunder! Thats whats happened to a number of surfers travelling in the Mentawai Island Chain off of Sumatra, Indonesia. Considered the best wave hunting trip on the planet due to the amount of world class waves in the area, coupled with a super high swell window. I, myself, have done the coveted boat trip to these Islands and what a trip it was!
Unfortunately for the surfers and the people of of the Islands, there was a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in the area last night which caused a Tsunami. Resorts and villages were submerged, people flocked to the Islands high points and some surfers even needed to climb trees (Check this Link). Two surf charter boats are missing and up to 10 Australian surfers. South African surf travel company, All Aboard, reports that all their South African clients are accounted for, with no deaths or missing people.

We obviously hope that the death toll is much lower than the last time this happened and that all the people of Sumatra and those traveling in the area will be alright.

Aah the Old School
Today I have 2 great videos for you to take a gander at. They both represent the old school for me, while still showing that the power of great surfing and music will never fail.
First off there is this video from Rip Curl, showcasing Tom Curren and Frankie Oberholzer. These guys were my hero's when I was a grom and to see them both ripping apart these waves in Indonesia is incredible. Tom was always the smoothest cat in the water, but its watching Frankie surf that really blows me away. He is still surfing as good if not better than in those original Search videos. Original Search videos? Check this out -
Now Rip Curl have a boat exploring the entire Indinesian Island Chain in their Tip2Tip campaign. They reunited Tom and Frankie and the waves were so good, they ended up staying for an extra week. Frankie is still just the surf stoked grom! Love it.
Hope enjoyed!
