The Quiksilver Pro starts today with the trials in some pretty heavy looking French beachbreak. After a manic week at Trestles, Kelly Slater has shaken the title race up and while Mick Fanning is still in the lead, he will be feeling Kelly breathing down his neck. Joel Parkinson and John John Florence are in the top 4 and both of these guys can cane the beachies in France. They were in the Brazil final with John John winning and if the swell stays small to medium, they could quite easily be in this final. Keep a beady eye on the Brazza, Adriano da Souza, sitting in 5th on the rankings and looking solid at Trestles.
My dark horses are Dane Reynolds, who has been awarded a wild card, and would probably love to win the contest doing the most outrageous surfing possible. But, my big call has to be Jordy Smith. he was totally ripped off in California and he knows it. I am hoping to see a hungry and merciless giant in the water in France. Jordy needs to take his surfing to the line and cane every wave he surfs. The French beachbreaks are very similar to the waves he grew up on and the man is just to good not to start winning more contests. I think France could be it.
This guy is possessed of the power to go large! Some of the rails and launches he tries in this video are simply ridiculous. He also pays the price hard, but always gets up and hits the rail again and again till he nails it. Be inspired today and watch the full movie HERE

The waves were fun, the light onshore allowing massive air attempts, and the surfers were pumped for Day 1 at the Hurley Pro. Surprise of the day was Yadin Nicol absolutely blowing up in his Round 1 heat with 2 of the biggest airs of the event so far. World number 1, Mick Fanning, showed why he is controlling the top spot this year with a clinical display. Kelly Slater and Jordy Smith were also in impressive form. Surprises aplenty as John John, Julian Wilson, Miguel Pupo and Kohole Andino were knocked into Round 2, after most would have thought these guys would dominate at Trestles. We now see a stacked Round 2, with many big players. Travis Logie was on fire, but unfortunately, he was unable to meet the power turns of a rampant Jordy.

Last year I found myself in the sleepy town of Kimberley, but sleepy it was not as the World's best skaters had pulled into town and taken over. It was one of the best skate events I have ever witnessed. The quality of riding was up there with the biggest events I have seen and I have been to the biggest and best. This year promises more of the same and for all you skate fans, I have an epic hamper to give away....

Monday has dawned with a great Winter Surf Video battle for your enjoyment. (Well, I say battle, but these guys probably love each other.) What is interesting, besides being launched the same day, is that both videos have Winter in their titles, both surfers are from SA, both surfers names start with "BR", both guys are sponsored by Quiksilver and both guys get tubed off their faces.
I have to say, my favorite is Brendon's due to the better filming and editing, along with variety, but that is a bit unfair as Jacko's video is of just one super session. Both videos rock. Which one do you like most?

Normally a wave left to the bodysurfers and bodyboarders, Jamie charges it on a big swell on the first day of spring. We finish off with a little bit of Pool Party fun with the team at Unit, as they send out a casting call for their next dirty pool party. (Great idea...)
The recent British Superbike Championship, at Cadwell Park, provided some rather intense and dramatic racing for the spectators. some smart fellow was on hand with a super slow motion camera to capture the aerial antics of these mullets on 2 wheels. Simply glorious!
I am a little upset it took me this long to find this. two of our favorite characters when it comes to caning cars together at last! This was for a Ford Falcon campaign in Oz late last year. It simply begs the question, when is Ken Block going to bring his Gymkana to South Africa?

The Maloof Money Cup runs from the 28-30 September at the Maloof Skate Plaza and you can get ready for the best street, Vert and Mini-mega Ramp action ever seen in South Africa. The Maloof Money Cup will return to Kimberley in the Northern Cape Province for its second edition from 28 – 30 September 2012. Considered to be the world’s premier showcase for professional and amateur skateboarding, the Maloof Money Cup SA world skateboarding championships is also tagged as the richest event of its kind with a prize purse of R4, 000, 000!!!
The three-day event will be hosted at the Kimberley Maloof Skate Plaza in Kimberly and will feature some of the top skateboarders from around the world on the magnificent street and vert sections of the world class state-of-the-art course. Top professional contenders as well as South African amateurs will battle it out for the word champion titles in the various disciplines.
According to Joe Maloof, founder of Maloof Skateboarding and owner of The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, they are delighted to return to South Africa. “We were absolutely overwhelmed by the positive reaction from the South African public during the first event in 2011. The government and people of the Northern Cape Province embraced the concept and we were amazed by the incredible hospitality. We were especially proud of the reception we received from the local skateboarding community and the wonderful natural talent and enthusiasm expressed by skateboarders across the country. This year’s world championships, the biggest skateboarding contest in the world, promises to be bigger and better than ever and we can’t wait to return to sunny South Africa,” mentioned Joe Maloof.
The 2011 Maloof Money Cup was the first time that the event left American shores and proved to be the biggest sporting event ever to be hosted in the Northern Cape. The capital of Kimberley was literally invaded as thousands of spectators and skateboarding enthusiasts descended on the town for the contest. The event made a significant economic impact on the regional economy as accommodation facilities, restaurants and tourism attractions were filled to capacity.
Following the unprecedented success of the inaugural event, Maloof Skateboarding this week announced that they have extended their contract with the Northern Cape as hosts of this exhilarating event to five years. This will arguably transform Kimberley into the skateboarding capital of the world as professional skateboarders have proclaimed the state-of-the-art skate plaza as the best of its kind in the world.
Hosting the Maloof Money Cup formed a crucial part in the repositioning of the Northern Cape Province as the prime destination for adventure and extreme sports in the country, but also gave the provincial government the opportunity to engage with the youth of the province. “The 2011 Maloof Money Cup was undoubtedly a huge success in terms of global media exposure and economic benefit to the province, but the impact we had on the youth of our province was unbelievable. The Maloof Money Cup presented to them a lifestyle alternative that is accessible and affordable and could be the catalyst for huge socio-economic changes,” stated John Block, Northern Cape MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism.
During the run-up to the event, the provincial government will continue to take the message of skateboarding to the streets with the Skateboarding for Hope community outreach programme. In addition, skateboarding road tours and public qualifier events will be hosted across the country to identify budding skateboarding talent. Three Pro Tours will feature some of the top riders in the world and will help in creating awareness of skateboarding as one of the fastest growing sports in the world amongst local communities.
