The Perfect Storm - Billabong Pro Jbay 2012

Wok and I hard at work! (Photo: AVG)
First things first, I arrived in Jbay on the back of a 41 hour trip from LA. To say I am broken would have been an understatement. Never the less, I woke to perfect waves at the best point in the world and a contest site frothing for what was going to be one of the best 6 Star events of all time. The biggest storm of all time was on the horizon and contest director, Luke Egan, wanted the event done before it arrived. Enter 3 days of 24 heats per day and a crew of workers and surfers who went full tilt to the finals, where the most full tilt surfer of them all was awarded victory in the form of Brazilian, Adriano da Souza. While this was all going on I found myself in the holy grail of seats for a person dedicated to talking about surfing, the Billabong Pro webcast booth, along with my main man Wok. We were given an opportunity and we both grasped it with open arms. My feeling is that we brought something fresh to the webcast and hopefully that will be rewarded with more time in the booth at big contests. We snuck the event under the storm radar and then got thoroughly bolted by what must be the most insane storm I have ever seen at Jbay. It was ok though, we were happy to chill indoors with a glass of Red wine after the best contest in a very long time!

Here is my radio show with fellow commentator, Greg Long, contest director, Luke Egan, Billabong SA main skiet, Chad da Arcy and Billabong Events manager, The Heff! Have a listen and understand fully what went down at this momentous event!

Captain Kai's World Podcast 17 - Best of 2011

Start your year off proper, with my "Best of 2011" Radio Show. Was the first time I did the show on my own, which I wont lie was a little harder than expected. But, having said that, I think it was really good and had my favorite tunes from 2011, along with the action sports highlights covered by Captain Kai's World. Enjoy!

Captain Kai's World on www.2OV.fm - Podcasts for Show 16

Another week and another amazing show. Even set a record last night with 6 guests over the 2 hours. The first segment of the show I had Chris Mason and Spike from Wavescape to talk about their Film Festival that begins this week. They were joined by Roosta, who is the star of one of the movies premiering at the Festival, Surfing and Sharks.

The second segment I had the Downhill Skate crew in to talk about this weekend's World Cup event at Rooi Els, Hot Heels Africa. Justin Boast, of SAGRA, Mischo the 2x Defending champion and Gabby, one of SA's new lady chargers, were on the show.

Captain Kai's World on www.2OV.fm - Podcasts for Show 12 - The Movember Show

Show 12 and for the first time we broadcasted from outside of the 2 Oceans Vibe studio. In honor of Movember, we were live from Barnet Fair in Bree St, the new, old school Barbers. I was joined by Chris Cab (Who lost his Mo to grow a new one), Paul Snodgrass (Who due to having a role in a TV show could not shave his face, so he got a Tit MO instead.), Stuart Bradburn (World Champion Downhill Skateboarder), Ivo (Uber Tech from Digital Agency, Hello Computer), Louis from Taxi Violence and of course the awesome Movember team! It has to be said that I really enjoyed having a Cut Throat shave for the first time, though it was very traumatic losing my beard after all this time together! The show was dam funny with plenty of laughter and Richard Hardiman running the music and mix. Enjoy!

Captain Kai's World on www.2OV.fm - Podcasts for Show 10

Shew, hard to believe that I have already done 10 shows on 2 Oceans Vibe Radio.  Never thought I would be on the radio to be honest, what with my passion for film and TV. It was such a pleasant surprise to see how much I have enjoyed doing the show and that it now feels like an important part of my future. Big thanks go out to Richard Hardiman, who made it all possible!

Chris Cab was back for Show 10 - this time a good deal more sober - and we discussed Ryan Villipoto winning a Million Dollars at the Monster Energy Cup, the biggest purse in MX history. The Rip Curl Pro in Portugal is ongoing and got the full treatment. Had a little look ahead to Halloween Jam next weekend and talked the life of being a sponsored athlete, with both the ups and downs. Then don't forget the amazing playlist of music that got played.

Thanks for listening!

Captain Kai's World on www.2OV.fm - Podcasts for Show 9

Wow, show 9 already and my guests on this one really did come out firing! Chris Cab, Monster Europe MC and Celebrity, arrived pretty warmed up and even took a kip against the mic during the show. Andrew "Roosta" Lange, who has been on the show before was also in fine fettle and the boys proceeded to get fired up, speak their minds and laugh alot! Sally Berold, the super fine "Weather Girl" added her 2 cents and brought me a Bday Cake. Shaba briefly came and spoke dirty skaters. It was a super fun show!

Captain Kai's World on www.2OV.fm - Podcasts for Show 8

Show 8 was absolutely awesome with the irrepressible Frank Solomon - big wave charger deluxe from my hood of Llandudno in Cape Town. Frank is sitting in 7th on the Big Wave world tour right now and representing for SA. We got a little drunk and the talk was pretty animated!
