Shew, so just a few more months and we get to see ourselves in a Hollywood movie, namely Blue Crush 2. They have started up the online campaign and released this short behind the scenes video. Check out Wok talking surfboards, he is so talented! I am pretty sure Wok won the World Surf Games and hence was an Champion of the world, but they decided 2nd on the SA Surf Tour sounded way more cool! haha

The Nice Surfer - Dane Reynolds

Ok, we all know Dane is a phenomenal surfer. His blog is also one of my absolute favorites, with a great video uploaded every day - Marine Layer Productions. But, as it turns out, he is a really nice guy to! After the devastating natural disasters in Japan, he is donating all proceeds from sales on his Tshirts, as well as matching that amount himself, to help raise funds for Aid Relief.

ASP World Tour - VENTURA, California/USA (Tuesday, March 16, 2011) – The hearts and sympathies of the ASP family are going to our friends overseas in Japan right now and several of the world’s best surfers are doing their part to help those in need. Dane Reynolds (USA), 25, while sidelined with a knee injury, has gotten himself in the game in a big way to aid those in Japan. For the remainder of the week, Reynolds is donating 100% of all sales from his label, Summer Teeth, to Japanese Relief Effort via Relief International. As if that wasn’t enough, the young Californian has also pledged to personally match all sales and donate direct to the fund as well. Big moves from Dane and hats off to the rest of the ASP World Tour surfers for aiding our friends in Japan.

Airial Surfers go Mad! Boost Air Show

BONDI BEACH, Sydney/Australia (March 13, 2011) – ASP World Tour aerial surfer Josh Kerr wowed the judges in the finals of the Boost Mobile SurfSho, at Bondi Beach today, taking out the top prize and reaffirming his status as the world’s number one aerial surfer.
Kerr takes home $25,000 in prize money for winning the Boost SurfSho, which is the richest prize purse aerial surfing event in the world.
The 26-year old, from Coolangatta on the Gold Coast, competed against the cream of International surfing, beating world number two Jordy Smith; world number four Taj Burrow and two-time event champion Owen Wright, during the three-day aerial surfing extravaganza.
When receiving his trophy on the Boost Mobile SurfSho podium, Kerr said: “I’ve had an awesome time down at Bondi these past few days. My film premiere last night and now this title along with $25k, it’s as good as a weekend gets. Great location, great crowd, great day!
On the competition he added: “I thought Jack Freestone had the title there for a while but I lucked out with that winning wave and in tough conditions did just enough to take the title. These young kids are coming up through the ranks and all gunning for you so it challenges me to keep things fresh and come up with new tricks. The win helps keep my name out there and is a real confidence boost for the rest of the year.”
Kerr surfed strongly in the final, with three strong waves. He won the event with a forehand mute grab air reverse that scored him a 9.0 (out of a possible 10) from the judges who said it was beautifully executed with great rotation. His closest competitor was Junior World Champion Jack Freestone who scored an 8.0 for the same manoeuvre, followed by Julian Wilson with a score of 7.23.
Bondi Beach provided a stunning backdrop for the event today, with bright blue skies and crystal clear water. The surf offered clean conditions with 2-3 foot waves. More than 30,000 spectators lined the beach to watch the final and soak up the festival atmosphere.
In contrast to a traditional surfing competition, the day’s format followed a unique format in which a wheel was spun at the start of each heat, dictating which aerial tricks the surfers had to perform. Surfers received points out of ten for their best trick in each heat and the top six ranked surfers went into the final.
John Shimooka, event spokesperson said: “We’ve seen some awesome aerial action this weekend at Bondi, executed by the world’s best surfers. The thousands strong crowd soaked up the sun and surfing fun and all the surfers had a blast. It’s great to see the event even bigger and better this year and we look forward to seeing the world’s best here again for the biggest
yet in 2012.”

Rolling with RVCA

My day started well yesterday, with the great news that I am teaming up with RVCA SA, under their Artist Network Program, or ANP. We did the Rolling Retro surf event with RVCA at the beginning of the year and it looks like next year could produce an even better event, and possibly more venues around SA. So worth watching this space.In the meantime I get to roll in one of the world's coolest brands and play with some of the coolest and brightest creative minds on the planet.

So with this new partner in crime, mayhem, and blissful artistic expression, I thought it best if you and I both learnt a little more about RVCA. The brand? The people? You get the drift. So I asked the magical web internet and was told the following -

Where the trail ends - A Freeride Movie

Ok, so watching the crazy antics of some guy riding a mullet event in Chile, inspired me to see what was out there movie wise for Freeriding. This is what I cam across through Red Bull.

 Freeride Entertainment, producers of the New World Disorder series, are pleased to announce the beginnings of a new project taking mountain biking back to the roots of freeriding.

Where the trail ends... is the start of a new feature film based on the natural terrain progression of riding in remote international locations. Freeride is excited about their new project which started deep in the Gobi desert in China earlier this year.

Featured riders from this first expedition were Darren Berrecloth, Kurt Sorge, and James Doerfling.

Seriously, this guy must have balls of iron! My head took 4 views to try and make sense of this gnarly course. WTF I mean check when he is flying along and nearly kills a dog running in front of him, never mind the psycho drop off later in the run. Cape Town could well do one of these!

Kelly Slater remains the Number 1 by winning the Quik Pro

Ok, so we thought he might not even surf on tour this year, but Kelly declined that rumor and simply stormed through to win the first event of the year. Beating Taj Burrow in a super close final, you could see the anguish in Taj's body language after the final siren. On paper, Taj was the most consistent surfer in the event, with not one heat loss till the final and an average heat score of over 16 out of 20. But Kelly pretty much mind fucked him in the final - check out Kelly's stall spraying Taj in the face in the heat video!

 “I’m having a lot of fun,” Slater said. “It’s pretty easy. You go out and surf Snapper by yourself, it’s pretty fun. To get to surf a contest is a bonus. I’d like to thank my girlfriend and everyone at Quiksilver for throwing the event. Everyone loves this event because the waves are so fun. I don’t think I’m the only one that thought Taj was the standout of the event. At some point had to stop getting 9s and I just picked the right heat.”

“I’m excited about the tour for 2011,” Burrow said. “It was a fun event and it’s just a bummer the waves didn’t hang in there at the end. I couldn’t better a 3. Hats off to Kelly, he built a house and it worked. I’d just like to thank everyone that organized the contest, it was awesome.”

Jordy Smith (ZAF), 23, 2010 ASP World Runner-Up, surfed with style, punch and bite throughout the duration of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, securing exciting last-minute victories over Joel Parkinson (AUS), 29, and Alejo Muniz (BRA), 21, to advance through to the Semifinals. However, the big South African was unable to overtake Burrow in a repeat of last season’s Final.

“It’s disappointing when everything seems to be going well and the surf doesn’t cooperate,” Smith said. “Taj (Burrow) surfed amazing though and it’s still a good start for me. I’m looking forward to the next event and I’ll just put my head down and work hard until then.”
